HIGHLIGHTS
Swinerton is constructing a cluster of three unique academic buildings for Chemeketa Community College in the heart of Salem, OR. These buildings, known as the Agricultural Complex, will serve as a hub for the college to provide expanded classes and facilities for their students, partners, programs, and the broader community.
The center of the complex is a 15,000 square foot classroom building with a soaring double-height lounge space. The building is constructed entirely of locally produced glulam columns and beams and exposed Mass Plywood Panel (MMP) ceilings. Adjacent to the building is a smaller stand-alone lab classroom that utilizes steel columns and locally built roof trusses. Across the courtyard, a 3,000 square foot Pavilion building will offer open-air classroom space and a place to gather. This building features a combination of glulam and steel columns, glulam beams, and an exposed butterfly roof with MPP Panels channeling water to a central gutter and out to a rain garden. When completed, the buildings will create a central courtyard space to allow for public and educational gatherings surrounded by a variety of different learning gardens.
The complex’s goal is to create a collaborative hub to serve the agricultural communities and industries of Marion, Polk, and Yamhill Counties. Swinerton Mass Timber is proud to support these efforts by bringing together a team of local suppliers, craftspeople, and wood innovators to create a one of a kind space dedicated to Oregon’s growing wood economy.
